"Health Effects of Air Pollution" in Medford
Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility, 25.02.2009 - 12:02FUN AND EDUCATIONAL EVENT ON MARCH 9TH! SHARE THE NEWS!
Contact Maye Thompson by return email for more information: maye@oregonpsr.org
Oregon PSR will present its new program, "A Breathable Future: Health Effects of Air Pollution" in Medford on Monday, March 9th from 7 - 8:30 pm, at Medford Public Library, 205 South Central Ave, in Medford. The event is free of charge, and the public is enthusiastically invited to attend!
The event will give local residents the information they need to make informed decisions in sometimes puzzling circumstances. For instance, should you or your children go outside to run or play soccer when the Air Quality Index shows it is "unhealthy for sensitive populations"? As a parent, a citizen, a patient or a health care professional, "A Breathable Future" will provide the information you need to make decisions like this. There are also plenty of resources to take home or look up online afterward.
On 3/2/09 Oregon PSR's Maye Thompson was interviewed on the Brain Labor Report. The interview starts about half way through the audio file, listen here> http://www.kskq.org/brainlabor/?p=467

KEEP OREGON'S GUARD IN OREGON CALL IN DAY
Peace and Justice Works, 24.02.2009 - 14:07KEEP OREGON'S GUARD IN OREGON CALL IN DAY, THURSDAY FEB 26
Time is running short before half of Oregon's National Guard troops are
slated to deploy to Iraq in late March/early April, so we have scheduled a call-in day this Thursday, February 26, for you to contact your state
representatives and senators in Salem!
While the Campaign to Keep Oregon's Guard in Oregon has progressed well,
securing a total of 14 cosponsors on the proposed legislation to keep the guard home (HB 2556, HR 4 and SR 1), we need to put some serious (but polite!) pressure on the Governor, the Speaker of the House, the Senate President, and the committee chairs who have the ability to move the legislation forward.

Keep the Oregon National Guard Home campaign
Leah Bolger, Veterans for Peace Chapter 132, 05.02.2009 - 08:32Today's (2/5/09) Press Release reminds us of Southern Oregon's support for this important campaign. The following local organizations have signed on: Citizens for Peace and Justice, Peace House, Rogue Valley Veterans for Peace Chapter 156 and Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice.
Portland, OR, February 5: Early this week, Oregon became the sixth state to introduce measures in its state legislature with the goal of challenging the use of the National Guard in Iraq. A bill, now known as HB 2556, would give the Governor the authority to withhold the Guard from federal deployment when there is no legally valid authorization. Identical House (HR 4) and Senate (SR 1) resolutions then call on the Governor to withhold the Guard deployments from Iraq and Afghanistan because the terms of the 2002 Iraq authorization by Congress have been met, and the 2001 "War on Terror" authorization improperly delegates warmaking powers to the President, resulting in a perpetual call-up of the Guard.

"Illegal People" northwest tour report
D A V I D * B A C O N, in his own words..., 04.02.2009 - 15:47Southern Oregon hosted author/photographer David Bacon on his book tour on Feb. 2, 2009 in Medford, Oregon.
The Rogue Independent Media Center is pleased to present a northwest tour report back by David Bacon, in his own words...
Dear folks,
This is a collective thank-you to all the people who helped to make the book tour for "Illegal People" possible. It was a real success and collective achievement, by any measure.
20 speaking events
2330 people we reached in those events
124 books sold
In every meeting we were able to connect the issues of immigration and the displacement caused by corporate globalization to the many needs of working people -- for immigration reform, single-payer healthcare, the employee free choice act, and the jobs programs promised by a new administration.
