About Us

Mixx is your link to the web content that really matters. There's a lot of information out there and, let's face it, you don't have all day to find the good stuff (if you do, we're totally jealous). And who knows better than you what informs you, what makes you think, what makes you laugh? So why should some faceless editor get to decide what's important?

But now you're in charge. You find it; we'll Mixx it. Use YourMixx to tailor the content categories, tags, specific users and groups, and we'll deliver the top-rated content as chosen by you and people who share your passions. So go ahead and whip up your own version of the web. Just tell us how you like it Mixxed and we'll deliver the best the web has to offer—morning, noon and night.

The Mixx Team

You know who we are, just because we’re always lurking around, commenting on stories, coming up with cool new features and, yes!, listening to you. But how well do you really know your Mixxologists?

Would you have guessed that, among others, the Mixx team includes an ex-banker; a blackjack dealer; an ice skater; a slacker; a self-professed geek (OK, that one’s a gimme); a herpetophobic; and a rabid cricket fan?

So what did you do before Mixx?
I’m a recovering Banker, still working through the 12-step process; I was General Manager of Yahoo News, Weather, Yahooligans (Yahoo Kids) and Yahoo Education; and Vice President of Strategy for USATODAY.
Can you tell us what's on YourMixx?
I have a better question: What isn’t on my Mixx? I have Popular stories and photos, Environment, tech, science, Washington DC and Election 2008. My tags are "Mixx," "Alzheimers" and "Redsox." My Groups include "Team Mixx" (private); a private group for the parents of my four year old's pre-school class, and "Web 2.0 Beyond the Terror Dome."
Assuming that you actually have some free time, what do you do with it?
I chase my children and Mixx on my Crackberry. Or was that Mixx the children and chasing the Crackberry?
Tell us something we don’t know about you:

    Joe
So what did you do before Mixx?
I spent a decade at AOL building web apps, and a decade before that building software for the military-industrial complex.
And what would we find on YourMixx?
You’d find the Olympics; swords; entertainment; election 2008; and history.
If you were to have free time, how would you spend it?
You’d probably find me playing games with friends, arguing history and politics, looking for new adventures, reading or sailing.
Tell us something that we may not know about you:
I'm seriously geeky. No, really. I met my wife at a game of D&D. I took my kids out of school for opening day of all three Lord of the Rings movies. My favorite sport is fencing, and I've been known to put on costumes and pretend to be a mythical being. And not just on Halloween, either. I'm also up for any kind of adventure, whether it’s scuba diving, skydiving, skiing, or just about anything else.

I used to be a professional blackjack dealer in Lake Tahoe, NV.

    Tell us something about yourself.
I firmly believe there is a movie quote for every situation. And I will prove it every chance I get. I also like to perform random SNL skits. And I have a serious problem of speaking in LOLcatz language. Nom nom.

  • Will Kern

    Director, Product Management

    Will
Tell us about your work, pre-Mixx:
Well, I used to be the lettuce washer at McDowell's before I moved up to the fry machine. Then the big times came calling and I moved into management.
Ok, then. So what's on YourMixx?
Popular Photos / Stories; My Groups (Team Mixx, Web 2.0 and Beyond the Terror Dome); Entertainment; Sports; College Football (unfortunately no colleges wanted to offer a scholarship to a runt of an offensive lineman, so, yes, this is how I cling to my broken dreams).
So when you’re not reliving those glory days, how do you spend your free time?
Oh, I like to sit by the fireside and read Elizabethan novels to my children (they’re very advanced for their ages) or whittle wooden trinkets and the like. I also like to spend time with my family and brew my own beer. (Only two of these are true and yes, the beer is excellent.)
Tell us something we may not know about you.
I once competed in a 24-hour mountain bike race. I was on a team of 4; we completed 8 laps in 24 hours. The winner of the solo competition (yes, meaning the only one on the team and riding for 24 hours by himself) completed 14 laps. Which basically means that we were terrible and a bit out of shape.

So was there a work life before Mixx?
Let’s see, I was a shrimp boat captain, carnival barker, hunting-cap-with-earflaps model, naugahyde rancher, and then a coffee-house rock star.
Um, OK. And what’s on YourMixx?
Looks like some photos of barely literate felines...
What do you do when you’re not working?
I shield my eyes from the blinding glare that is e-fame. When I’m not sleeping, that is.
Would you like to share anything else about yourself?
I am not a strong swimmer. I despise mowing. I have a bubble gum center.
