Socks, the Clintons' White House Cat, Dies

My claim to fame is that I got to pet Socks on the south lawn of the White House on September 29, 1993. He was tethered to a long leash just outside the Oval Office and had walked over to where we were setting up an exhibit for the Clean Car Initiative presentation that Clinton was to announce that morning. It was the first time I had ever seen a cat on a leash. Socks was meowing loudly at a stray tabby cat who was in the bushes just outside the White House grounds. After the security guards saw the attention Socks was getting from us, they instructed us to "Stay away from the cat!"
