Defend the Hyde Square 7!
On October 21, 2008 seven Jamaica Plain anti-war and social justice activists were confronted by police while standing in conversation on a public sidewalk off Centre Street. When they asserted their right to assemble in public and asked for reasons why the police demanded to see their identification, they were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. The group, who has been called the Hyde Square Seven, has fought the charges. Over the course of three hearings at West Roxbury District Court, all motions to dismiss the charges have been denied, and the Hyde Square Seven will stand trial on Wednesday, January 28 at West Roxbury District Court.

These nights are for Alexis: A closer look into the December uprising in Greece
Ljubljana_20.12._spanska1.pngEleven days after the 15-year old boy Alexandros Grogopoulos was killed by a police bullet in Athens, I decide to travel to Greece. The following article is no news, nor is it an analysis of the news. It is an attempt to create more understanding of the inner workings of the uprising, the sociopolitical and cultural climate in which it took place and the movement behind it. It does not attempt to give an objective representation of the uprising instead it is written from a highly subjective perspective and a compilation of interviews I held with people from the anarchist/anti-autoritarian movement in Thessaloniki.

Zimbabwe's Future Under a New U.S. Administration?
zimbabwe_green_map.gifBob Herbert the African-American New York Times columnist has just published a column in the New York Times called "Zimbabwe" in which he claims that Zimbabwe it is in a total mess and that it's all the president of Zimbabwe's fault. The president of Zimbabwe is of course Robert Mugabe and he has been president from the very beginning of the creation of the state of Zimbabwe out of what was a very brief but successful political uprising of the overwhelming majority black population of Rhodesia against the colonial British white settlers who stole the country, controlled the economy and owned practically all the farmland.
