Justice for Oscar Grant and All Victims of State Violence and Police Execution
News Years Day 2009 started with the execution-style murder of 22 year old Oscar Grant III. Brother Oscar became a victim of police terrorism at Oakland's Fruitvale BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Station. Brother Oscar was shot, while laying face down, by Bart Officer Johannes Mehserle. While the victim and his friends were cornered in and terrorized by the BART Police. Oscar Grant could be heard saying "…don't kill me, I have a 4 year old". Oscar and his friends were utilizing the BART stations all night service, an annual process on News Years Eve.

Atlanta Food Not Bombs - Guerilla Caroling

An Issuance by Food Not Bombs Atlanta in solidarity with the Taskforce for the Homeless during a time of great struggle:

Debi Starnes, the owner of Sugar Magnolia Bed and Breakfast, benefits from private corporate sponsorships[1] in her role as the privately funded homeless advisor to the mayor. Her actions have done more to criminalize Atlanta's homeless than it has to help them by lobbying for the passage of “quality of life” legislation and by the creation of a new system that does not account for the 700-800 residents of the Task Force for the Homeless. She has compared human beings to stray cats and pigeons, instituted a program wherein police officers pose as tourists and arrest people who ask for change, and set up 'homeless meters' to encourage people not to share their spare change.

Douglasville muni judge sends Muslimah to jail for wearing her scarf

Corporate media has reported that a "Keith Rollins", municipal court judge of Douglasville, Georgia (a suburb of Atlanta) had a Muslimah arrested and dressed in an orange Guantanamo concentration camp type suit and sent her off to jail. Her "crime"? Wearing her headscarf in a courtroom. For a more truthful and accurate account about what happened than you can find in corp media, see:

Militant resistance to police violence is not confined to the arbitrary borders that make up Greece. Oppressed people's in the US fight the police on a daily basis. Lets keep Augusta, and all of the other cases of atrocities committed by police in the US in mind when we act in Solidarity on Saturday the 20th. Fighting for Greece means fighting for all of us!

Atlanta solidarity with Chicago factory occupation

Email:
redwedge@gmail.com

A lunch hour picket went up Monday at in the shadow of the massive Bank of America Plaza in Midtown Atlanta demanding a bailout for workers, not banks. The demonstration coincided with Jobs with Justice's call for a week of action for a "People's Bailout" as well as expressing solidarity with 200 laid-off workers at Chicago's Republic Window & Glass who have occupied their factory since Friday.

These workers, members of United Electrical Workers local 1110, faced sudden unemployment when the company announced it planned to close with just three days notice. Nearly 2 million other workers in the United States have been laid off this year as global capitalism's entered its worst crisis since the Great Depression.

The company claimed that it was forced to close up shop due to a downturn in the construction industry and because Bank of America refused a loan to continue operations. Yet, the government recently handed over $25 billion to Bank of America, and Republic workers reported management removing machinery from the past few weeks in anticipation of a closure - not the abrupt notice they gave workers.

Rather than walk out, the workers voted to stage a sit in until their demands are met. Over the weekend, community supporters rallied outside the factory and word of the occupation spread like wildfire over the internet.

The picket this afternoon was organized as an emergency show of support for this heroic struggle; further action will be taken if Republic and Bank of America continue to value their profits over people.
