Federal Law Gives Tribe Ruling in Baby Talon's Fate
I sympathize with the Native Americans, but a child is not a possession. The child is a human being. Where was the tribe when the mother was abusing drugs? Where was this tribe when the mother gave up the child? The child can be brought up and learn the culture in the family that adopted him. Couldn't they reach an agreement where the adoptive parents could continue raising the child and the tribe could educate him in the culture of the tribe? They could have advanced their culture by doing this and gained understanding and acceptance. Instead they tore this child away from the only parents he knew. So now what happens if the Hispanic branch of this child's ancestors go to court to preserve their heritage and they want to raise the child in their culture?
