As was predicted more than a year ago...Clear Channel has moved into online radio space in a major major way. I say within a year Internet radio will be a wrap for just about all of us.. reason being, their massive numbers CC brings to the table will do several things..

1-Prevent them from paying the newly implemented massive Sound Exchange/ RIAA fees because they will have cut side deals with all the major labels which will ultimately result in music not connected to a major label not being played and paid on their network...Who knows what those side deals will look like.. Trust me, CC has no intentions of paying that crazy money to small-time labels.

2-If they do wind up paying they will likely be able to do so because they are doing this venture with KATZ they will swoop up all the critical ad dollars that smaller webcasters will need if they wish to stay in business... The argument put forth by Sound exchange and their supporters was for all of us to go out and get advertisement.. Try competing with Katz Media Group. if you don't know about Katz read up on them..

3-The whole Sound Exchange/RIAA line about looking out for the interest of artists which was lapped up by some of within the media reform movement as being a fair thing. Yeah there may have been a few folks who got checks but in the long run this will wind up being the death knoll in what was a thriving alternative to the dreary offerings of regular radio..

This means the majors have sewn up much of the digital sphere.. from satellite to cell phones.

This will ultimately mean that with big giant like CC out the way along with Radio One and CBS who are planning or already have online radio ventures.. Sound exchange will be spending all their waking moments seeking out small webcasters and small businesses to clamp down on and vigorously enforce the law.. This was the ultimate hustle.

Now here's the best part to all this.. payola ain't illegal online.. but that's another story and another can of worms..

oh well this online thing had a good run..
