From the open publishing newswire: As the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change opened today in Poznan, Poland, a group of grassroots climate activists came to the Washington DC office of Environmental Defense to voice some complaints about their role in the shaping US proposals at the negotiations. ED is one of the largest environmental organizations in the world and has been central in promoting the approach of carbon trading as a solution to climate change, a policy which has been publicly endorsed by Obama.

Dr. Rachel Smolker of Global Justice Ecology Project read a statement, which said in part, "My father was one of the founders of this organization, which sadly I am now ashamed of. So far they have utterly failed, serving only to provide huge profits to the world's most polluting industries. Instead of protecting the environment, ED now seems primarily concerned with protecting corporate bottom lines. I can hear my father rolling over in his grave."

The activists rearranged furniture in the office, illustrating how marketing carbon is "like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic." Others held signs reading "Keep the cap, ditch the trade" and "Carbon trading is an environmental offense."

The workers have a plan to make this coffee house become a place that people can use for community organizing as well as offering bake goods and coffee and tea. First they need to raise the money to ask the bank and past owner to let them take over the loan. The workers need capital and they are asking the community and past customers to help them raise that money.

After a few minutes of footage from the days events, Matt talks about the world wide fur industry and played under cover footage taken in a fur farm in the United States. The video also depicts the dog and cat fur industry in China. Matt says that half of the fur used in garments in the world comes from China. Fur used for garments, but also for trim and accessories. This undercover footage is extremely graphic, portraying brutal and inhumane conditions as well as anal execution, the method used to kill the animals.

Please keep educating people on all the reasons why fur is wrong, fur is unacceptable, and fur is dead.

From the open publishing newswire: A federal judge ruled today that a trial in the case of Fouad Kaady, shot and killed by police in September of 2005 may proceed. As you all know, Fouad Kaady was only 27 when Officer William Bergin of the Sandy Police Department and Deputy David Willard of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office shot him only 28 seconds after responding to a call which found Kaady naked and bleeding after an accident. Fouad's family filed a lawsuit naming the two officers, the city and the county as defendants siting allegations of excessive force, civil rights violations and wrongful death.

The trial is scheduled to begin on April 28, 2009 in the courtroom of Judge Paul Papak and is on the docket to last three weeks.
