Sergio Aguayo Quesada is a professor at El Colegio de México and a prominent human rights and civil society activist. He currently presides over the Asociación Política Nacional Propuesta Cívica and is the President of the Board of Directors of Fundar, Centro de Análisis e Investigación. Previously, Aguayo was President of the Academia Mexicana de Derechos Humanos (1990-1996) and a coordinating member of Alianza Cívica (1994-1999). He was a founding member of the newspaper La Jornada, is a columnist for Reforma, and participates as a political analyst on the television show Primer Plano. Recent publications include The Mexico–U.S. Almanac (2005), A Diagnosis of the Human Rights Situation in Mexico (2003) and La Charola: a History of the Mexican Intelligence Services (2001).
