Rooftop Protest at Cluster-Bomb Maker's Bristol Offices

Ed Hill writes: Anti-war protesters have braved sub-zero temperatures in the night to continue their rooftop protest at the Raytheon office block in Frenchay near Bristol...This morning supporters on the ground delivered a letter to the office unit, Argentum House, informing them that Raytheon is breaching international law and should be given notice to leave. The Raytheon office is at Argentum House, Bristol business Park Frenchay, near the MOD site at Abbeywood. This is the third roof-top protest as part of a total of eight on-going weekly protests at the Raytheon offices in Frenchay, One roof-top protester said "The US and Britain had no more right to invade Iraq or Afghanistan than Nazi Germany did to invade Poland or France. Raytheon played their part by producing foul, indiscriminate weapons and we won’t be quiet till they have left our city for good."... Raytheon are 4th largest arms company in the world with a $20 billion turnover per year. They are involved massively in the manufacture or delivery systems of WMD. They are the biggest cruise missile maker (Patriot and tomahawk). Their range of both cruise-missiles and plane-dropped bombs can be loaded with cluster bombs. Cluster bombs are indiscriminate weapons killing civilians and soldiers alike. Full article.

A Vigil for Human Rights, Uniting All...Wednesday 10th December

Hari from Amnesty International writes: Join us on the Centre Promenade (by the fountains opposite the hippodrome) from 4pm till 7pm on Wednesday 10th December, Human Rights Day, to protest about human rights abuses taking place all over the world and right under your nose! Help us to mark this very important day by making your presence known. This is a chance to join with the people of Bristol and beyond to protest about any human rights related issue that is closest to your heart. Bring banners; if you don't have any then make your own, it's much more fun anyway. dress up, jump around, bring guitars, light candles, burn I.D cards, do what you like, this is your protest! Former Plymouth resident Dave Mahoney faces serious charges following protests outside the Republican National Convention in St Paul, Minnesota

Bristol ABC write: Whilst travelling in the USA, Dave was present at the protests outside the Republican National Convention (RNC), in St Paul, Minnesota, back in early September this year. It was at this event that John McCain became the Republican candidate in the American Presidential election, and his acceptance speech was made against the audible background noise of a police riot with gas & stun grenades going off. On September 4, whilst out shopping, Dave was grabbed by the FBI and bundled into the back of a van. He now faces serious charges, and up to 20 years prison, and the only evidence seen against him so far is of him at a protest pointing his finger....Over 800 others were arrested at the protests, including poverty campaigners, anti-war activists, and many independent media reporters. Hundreds more required urgent medical treatment after being gassed at close range by the cops....The post 9/11 hysteria in America has created both an atmosphere, and a legal framework, whereby to actively oppose the rule of capital and the state is deemed a threat to national security....
