Support radical alternatives!
It is our mission at riseup to create grassroots technology alternatives in order to meet the computer needs of those working for social change. We are a small autonomous collective funded entirely by users like you who believe in supporting democratic alternatives.
The Riseup Collective includes two different entities: Riseup Networks and Riseup Labs. Riseup Networks provides internet email, hosting and email list services to individuals and organizations working for social change. For more information about Riseup Networks, you can meet our members, see our annual budget, and project areas. Donations to Riseup Networks are not tax-deductible.
Riseup Labs researches and develops free software that promotes security and privacy. Riseup Labs also educates the public regarding the benefits of free software and organizes events promoting its mission. You can learn more about Riseup Labs here. Riseup Labs is a registered non-profit corporation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and all donations to Riseup Labs are tax-deductible to the full extent permitted by law.
If you are able to, please consider setting up a recurring donation. The steady, predictable income from recurring donations helps us tremendously. Plus, you won't need to remember to donate and we won't need to remind you. For added fun and flexibility, you can choose a cycle of once a year, twice a year, four times a year, or monthly.
Suggested contribution:$0 — all volunteer organization
$50/year — budget under $10,000
$100/year — budget over $10,000
If you have a big list with over a hundred subscribers or with high traffic and lots of archives, increase the suggested donation amount several fold.
Please consider donating more if you can afford it. Any money left over after we have met our basic expenses gets plowed back into increasing capacity, providing service to more users, and our other project areas.
All financial decisions by the Riseup Collective are made using the consensus process by collective members.
Should I donate to Riseup Labs or Riseup Networks?
Ideally, both! Both organizations support different aspects of the critical work of the Riseup Collective. Those who are giving large donations usually opt to donate to Riseup Labs. Similarly, those who need their donations to be tax-deductible must donate to Riseup Labs as donations to Riseup Networks are not tax-deductible.
Donations By Mail
Make checks or money orders payable to either "Riseup Networks" or "Riseup Labs" and send them here:RiseupIf you make your check payable to "riseup" we will assume that your donation is intended for Riseup Networks. Out of respect for our users' privacy, we do not maintain a database of people who have donated. Because of this, we are unable to send you a letter of thanks when we receive your donation. Please know that we are so incredibly grateful: your support is our lifeblood and makes all our hard work possible. We love you for putting your money where your values are! *Exception:* We are required by law to annually report the identity of any donor who gives more than $5,000 USD. Also note that if you submit a donation to Riseup Labs for an amount greater than $100, we will send you a receipt that you may use for a tax deduction. If you are making a large donation (thank you!), then please consider sending a check or money order through the mail because paypal takes a percentage of your online donation. However, if you'd rather donate online, it's no problem. :)
