Anoka Arrestee Intimidated by Saint Paul Police in Connection with RNC

One of the nine people arrested at the ATK weapons manufacturing facility in Anoka, Minnesota last month came home Monday afternoon to find the business card of Saint Paul Police Department Sergeant Scott Duff left in his mailbox with a note written on the back reading “Please call when you have time, thanks.” The individual immediately contacted an NLG lawyer who then contacted Sergeant Duff inquiring about the nature of the request. Sergeant Duff responded by saying that “I heard that (said Anoka arrestee) was arrested in Anoka last month, and I wanted to see if he was planning on exercising his first amendment rights during the RNC because we’d be happy to arrest him.”

Neither the arrestee nor his lawyer have plans to further contact Sergeant Duff on the matter.

seriously?

Our cops must be really "intimidating" when they use words like PLEASE and THANK YOU. You must be shaking in your boots. Give me a break... all the cop wanted to do was talk to the idiot who committed a criminal act and got caught. Then you run like a little kid to tell the NLG what the big bad cops did.

Seriously?

Are you seriously suggesting that you fail to see the harm with cops leaving cards at people's homes, and threatening them, and their attorney's, with ARREST for excercising their 1st Amensment rights? Please and thank you aside, this rediculous JOKE of a, "public servant," is using our tax-payers dollars, and scarce police resources to intimidate American citizens into giving up their GOD-GIVEN RIGHTS!!! Now, did he just do this on his own, or are others in his department doing it, too? Are you okay with cops running around your city leaving their business cards in people's mailboxes so they can threaten your neighbors? And just what, exactly, gives a cop the authority or power to run around a city and do such a thing? What law is he enforcing here?

It is unbelievable that you can fail to see or understand that this type of tyranical OPPRESSION not only needs to be made public and discussed on open forums like this, but that this type of tyranical OPPRESSION needs to be aggressively punished. This FAKE COP is pretending to, "serve the public," by actively taking steps to violate the people's RIGHTS. How is that, in any way, okay with you? Should it just be dismissed because he said, "please," and "thank you?" No.

This cop is in serious need of a criminal complaint filed against him for harrassment and official oppression. Then, he needs to find himself, personally, the defendant in a MASSIVE civil law suit. A law suit of the type that sends a message to other FAKE COPS that this type of behavior will NOT be tolerated. If he is NOT immediately punished, severely, by his bosses over at the cop shop, his bosses, individually, and the entire department needs to find themselves defendants in their own, seperate, lawsuits, of the type that send a clear meesage that police precincts all over the state, and hopefully the country, that behavior in this manner or defence this behavior will NOT be tolerated either.

When cops, and their bosses, start forking over huge sums of money for this childlike, petty, ILLEGAL, IMMORAL, and TYRANICAL subversion of the Constitution and BLATANT, unapologetic, violations of the people's RIGHTS, maybe, just maybe, some of this nonsence will stop. And let's just hope that justice will be found in the jury box, 'cause the ballot box isn't getting it done, and noone wants to see it come down to the cartridge box.

And remember, if you don't punish the BAD COPS for BAD BEHAVIOR, it makes the good cops look like BAD COPS!!! This guy is a BAD COP, he did a BAD THING, and he needs to be punished for his BAD ACTIONS!!! Why would you try and minimize this? Do you support BAD COPS?

Police Harassment - How To Deal With The Situation

This may sound crazy to those who have no idea how the law works, but it works. I have filed numerous complaints against judges in this state. In fact my last complaint was against a Supreme Court Justice. A judge is responsible for maintaining the peace and sanctity (MS 484.07 annotated) of the day. Which means that they are not allowed to let the cops harass people. If they tolerate that behavior you have a duty to report them. I made the front page of the March 14, 2007 edition of the Willmar paper arresting a judge. They have regretted that headline ever since as I have repeatedly used it to my advantage.

A judge is a lawyer first so you need to file your complaint with the Board on Judicial Standards and the Lawyer's Professional Responsibility Board. Below are some links to fliers you can print out. Follow the instructions and the cops will leave you alone.

WHAT TO DO IF STOPPED BY A COP:

1. Immediately Demand To See A Judge (Courts Are Presumed To Be
Open 24/7 - 365 Days/Per Year.) Why Argue Complex Legal Issues
With Someone With Average Intelligence?

2. If Refused, Tell The Cop: "Thank You, You Have Just Earned Your
Judges A Complaint With The Board Of Judicial Standards. A Complaint Will Be Filed As Soon As I Am Released.”

3. Ignore Any And All Threats And Attempts At Intimidations.

4. Do Not Even Give Your Name. Anything You Say Or Write, Even Your
Name Can Be Used Against You In Court Or As A Psychological Weapon
Against You. Give Your Name Only To The Judge.

5. On Every Piece Of Paper Presented To You Write: “Void: Signed
Under Threat, Duress, and Coercion” Sign It With Your First And Last
Name But Replace Your Middle Name With “Duress.”

6. Refuse A Lawyer.

7. Tell The Judge "I Am Arresting You For Obstruction Of Justice." Ignore Any And All Threats And Attempts At Intimidations From The Judge. Ignore Any Court "Rulings" As They Are Invalid. Good Job!

What will a petition accomplish? Answer: Nothing. If you are going sign something file a complaint against the local judges for failing to maintain the peace and quietude in Minneapolis. This a complaint in which could cause the judge to lose their reputation, job, advancement, or even a higher office. A complaint must be answered by law. There is no legal obligation to answer a petition.

Must be a pig posting crap

Must be a pig posting crap like that. As much as I despise cops, i hope they don't allow the idiots coming in to destroy my hometown. free speech and right to assembly are one thing, breaking windows and destroying property is another.

You don't get it or you're a cop...

You either don't get it or you're a cop. That cop had absolutely no business contacting an activist IN ADVANCE of the RNC to ask if he or she plans to protest there. First, it is none of the cop's business. Second, it is illegal to pre-emptively arrest people. Third, by virtue of the cop just leaving his card at the person's home, that is the functional equivalent of "I know where you live" and is meant to intimidate and chill the rights of the person.

That person was absolutely right to go to the NLG and I would encourage all others who are contacted by police to do the same.

Michelle Gross
Communities United Against Police Brutality

who did the interview....?

I understand why Michelle is upset but who did this interview? Was it the attorney from the NLG or did someone talk with this rogue cop? Was this second or third hand information? So many questions are out there, maybe someone should track them down and find out the facts if it matters to anyone.

Yes

Michelle is absolutely right, and it is also great that this kind of thing is being posted to TC Indymedia. We encourage anyone who experiences similar incidents to, after going to the NLG and the Coldsnap collective, anonymously post their experience as an article here to help create a public record of the repression and intimidation taking place.

The fact that we seem to have one resident cop/troll/both leaving disparaging comments shouldn't discourage folks from doing this. Our movement is strong, and after all, we know how to effectively deal with being harassed by armed state-sanctioned gangs (i.e., the police) wielding deadly force; if this person thinks they can harass us through internet comments, well, that's just a pretty weak effort.

or tongue-in-cheek?

My intuition spoke that that post was mostly tongue-in-cheek. Yet, of course, just behind, having that familiar authoritarian ring to it. ...Perhaps the human being within cannot help it? Perhaps she/he is reflecting unfairness sent her/him from the higher-ups? At least the Indy project does not automatically "edit" out such voices. Good for you! To me, this thread is a way of practicing for social interactions via strategies of enrichment! I'm glad to see such values so deeply still intact here!

Having once been so 'carded' when i was in the middle of speaking up deeply in society, i recall having similar feelings; and once i knew my 'rights', i felt more able to use them adequately (i.e. i refused to talk with them). Similarly, if we could have teach-ins about using our 'rights' we could be even more prepared.

One question I wonder about as far as the NLG is concerned is, isn't it true that they don't take up every case? So what do we who find ourselves in such a place do? Well, i've found a few others:

policeabuse.com (cops who investigate the police from an "independent" (?) place; tho I wonder if they go deep enough when they find a fellow cop exhibiting some of the symptoms of working in that sort of hierarchical system...)

copwatch.org

And, finally, our best creative intelligence with each other as human beings informally.

Do we realize the value of bridging with each other in meaningful ways beyond the ways our programming tools us?
