It's not surprising that there is bitterness between the mother and daughter over the mother's failure to protect her daughter...It is not uncommon for mother's to choose to live in denial about sexual abuse. As a child advocate I have seen this before. Thank goodness, most children will not end up locked in a dungeon but they all end up with permanent scars from the abuse and the lack of protection from the mother...That sort of betrayal, in the most sacred of relationships of a mother & child, is almost impossible to get over.
