3CR Indigenous broadcasters have been conducting workshops in three Victorian prisons as part of 3CR's unique Beyond the Bars Project. These music and spoken word workshops will culminate in  live radio broadcasts during NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week from 7 - 11 July.

These award-winning prison broadcasts are unique in Australia and give Indigenous prisoners in Victoria their only chance to participate with the community during NAIDOC Week, a time of celebration and coming together within Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The prison broadcasts are part of a week of Indigenous special programming on 3CR 855AM from 7 –10 July. The prison programming will be simulcast on 3KND 1503AM.

On Wednesday June 25th 3CR broadcasters Gilla McGuinness, Johnny Mac, technician Meg Butler and Program Coordinator Juliet Fox went to Fulham Prison in Gippsland Victoria. Gilla and Johnny recorded a 2-hour NAIDOC Week broadcast with the Indigenous inmates of Fulham which will be broadcast on Wednesday July 9th from 2 – 4pm on 3CR, 3KnD 1503AM and distributed nationally via the Community Radio Network. This commemorative CD celebrates the life and poetry of 3CR broadcaster Lisa Bellear (1961 – 2006) with its recording of poetry readings from Reconciliation Poetry evenings held at La Mama Poetica over the last few years.

Radiothon is (nearly) over!!

Join 3CR programmers, friends, volunteers and staff at the Knock Off Drinks on Friday 20th June from 5pm at the British Crown Hotel (14 – 16 Smith Street, opposite 3CR). This is a 3CR Fundraiser with 50c from each drink and $2 from each meal going to 3CR. All welcome!
