Anyone can be an Indymedia contributor. You don't have to be a member of the editorial collective or a trained journalist (although it helps to know the basics of how to write a news story).

The contributors' list is a semi-moderated list and has a number of purposes. They include:

for Indymedia writers to talk with each other about the stories they're writing and share ideas and resources;
for contributors to coordinate so that the two people don't end up writing the same story;
for writers and photographers and videographers to arrange to hook-up at events so that Indymedia coverage becomes more three-dimensional; and
for people to send leaks, story ideas and press releases for contributors to pick up and turn into stories.
