Instructions for joining the Rule Interchange Format Working Group

These are general instructions for preparing to join and participate in the Rule Interchange Format Working Group. They are meant to inform both those who work for a W3C Member organization and those who do not.

If you have any further questions about joining this group, please send email to the Team Contact(s): Sandro Hawke <sandro@w3.org>.

If you work for or represent a W3C Member organization

If you are the Advisory Committee Representative of the W3C Member, you are the person responsible for formally joining this group on behalf of your organization and then nominating individuals to the group.

  1. Read the Rule Interchange Format Working Group Charter.
  2. If you do not already have a W3C Access Account login and password (check if there is an account associated with your email address), complete the Member Access Request Form. You should receive your W3C login name and password within two (2) business days.
  3. After you receive your W3C login name:
    1. complete the form for joining the Rule Interchange Format Working Group on behalf of your organization;
    2. complete the form for nominating individuals to participate in the Rule Interchange Format Working Group. Note: When you rejoin a group after a rechartering, you do not need to renominate representatives; they are automatically renominated when you join. You may change representatives if you wish. See also the Patent Policy FAQ for information about meeting after a rechartering.

If you are not the Advisory Committee Representative for your organization:

  1. Have your AC Representative complete the above steps to join the group and nominate you to participate; see note about auto-renomination after re-chartering.
  2. You will be notified once you have been nominated, at which point you may begin your participation in the group. You will also be subscribed automatically to the group's mailing lists.

If you do not work for a W3C Member organization

If you do not work for a W3C Member organization, first consider whether your employer can join W3C and get the benefits of Membership.

If this is not an option and you think that you have the expertise and availability to participate, you may request to participate as an Invited Expert as follows. Note: Your application is subject to approval by the Chairs and Staff Contacts of this group: Sandro Hawke <sandro@w3.org>. You may wish to make them aware of your intent to complete an application before starting the process.

  1. Read the Rule Interchange Format Working Group Charter.
  2. Read the invited expert and collaborators agreement.
  3. Read the Policy for Approval of Invited Experts.
  4. If you do not already have a W3C Access Account login and password (check if there is an account associated with your address), complete the Public Access Request Form. In the "Describe the specific purpose for this public access name and password:" field, fill in: "To apply for participation in the Rule Interchange Format Working Group as an Invited Expert." You should receive your W3C login name and password within two (2) business days.
  5. After you receive your W3C login name, complete the W3C Invited Expert Application. You should receive a reply within ten (10) business days. If your request is accepted, you will receive an invitation with additional instructions for formally joining the group.
  6. You will then be able to complete the form for joining and participating in the Rule Interchange Format Working Group as an Invited Expert, at which point you may begin your participation in the group.
  7. You will also be subscribed automatically to the group's mailing lists.

Note: All actions carried out through this system are reported by email to the relevant parties; copies are sent to w3c-archive@w3.org (Member-readable archive).
