Semantic Web is a lot of fun

A couple of weeks ago, W3C has released a few logos for the Semantic Web.

semantic web

As usual, in the open Web, the information went out a bit quickly. The usage policy on the logos is too restrictive for the Semantic Web community. They expressed it in a really entertaining way. The policy says:

The logo may not be used to disparage W3C, its Member organizations, services, or products.

Hey, that leaves a lot of room for parody! Semantic Web hackers prove once again that they have a lot of humor.

Ian Jacobs will send an email to the Semantic Web mailing-list with the new policy this week. We listened your comments and we opened the box, but you will tell us what you think about it.

Update 23 October 2007: The new policy for Semantic Web logos has been proposed to the semanticweb mailing-list. Do you have a comment? Answer on the thread or here in the comments.

I saw Danny's the day he posted it, and initially assumed he was just playing with SVG like Sam always does, thanks for letting me know! :-)

I should work it into the 'tetris' slide somehow too ...

Joe Gregorio's allusion is to the movie '2001: A Space Odyssey' line "My God! It's full of stars!". It's an astronaut in space, not a diver underwater.
