May 11th is the kickoff celebrations for Minnesota’s Sesquicentennial – 150 years of Statehood. Dakota people through the Oceti Sakowin Omniciya (Seven Fires Summit) have questioned the historical narrative that is being presented and have asked what is being celebrated.

Two indigenous triqui women who worked at the community radio station La Voz que Rompe el Silencio (The Voice that Breaks the Silence), in the autonomous municipality of San Juan Copala (Mixteca region), were shot and murdered while on their way to Oaxaca city to participate in the State Forum for the Defense of the Rights of the Peoples of Oaxaca. Three other people were injured.

Peter Young was jailed for two years for his role in releasing and conspiracy to release thousands of mink from fur farms in the Midwest. Peter will be speaking on going underground for animal liberation, the prison experience, and political persecution. Event is free and open to the public
