Position Vacancy at 3CR - 2008 Radiothon Worker

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Acknowledgement
3CR acknowledges that it broadcasts from land stolen from the Wurundjeri people, the original owners of the land where 3CR is located. The station also acknowledges that it broadcasts to land stolen from other members of the Kulin Nation in Victoria and to land stolen from Aboriginal people throughout Australia.

20 hours per week.
Pay rate: $26.58 per hour.
Period: 10 Weeks

Position Background
Radiothon runs from 2 June – 15 June 2008. The position is fixed-term employment, starting approximately Mon 14 April 06 and finishing Wed 18 June 08. The first weeks will be worked at shorter hours with the time being made up closer to Radiothon week. This will be negotiated with the successful applicant. A total of 190 hours will be worked.

Employment conditions are covered by the 3CR Certified Employment Agreement.  Short-listed applicants will be interviewed by a member of the Committee of Management, the Station Manager and a staff member.

Duties:
· Motivating, communicating with, and resourcing programmers around Radiothon. This includes assisting some programs to reach their Radiothon targets, recognising the specific difficulties that some programs experience raising money due to the disadvantages experienced by them and the communities they represent. These disadvantages may be influenced by racial discrimination, gender, sexuality, language and cultural barriers, disabilities, and age.
· Contact individuals and organisations for donations eg unions, community groups/organisations
· Coordination of publicity, including writing press releases and letters and distributing them.
· Contacting local media outlets to promote programmer profiles.
· Work with the 3CR Promotions group in promoting the Radiothon
· Station decorating and poster distribution.
· Some coordination of on-air Radiothon programming, including during Radiothon weekends.
· Radiothon panelling.
· Some phone and general reception duties.
· Attendance at Radiothon staff meetings.

Selection Criteria
Essential
· Ability to work constructively under pressure and manage time efficiently.
· Demonstrated fundraising experience in community based organisation
· Demonstrated ability to write press releases and develop relationships with other media.
· Ability to work with minimum direction and supervision.
· Good interpersonal communication skills.
· Demonstrated audio production skills

Desirable
· Demonstrated understanding of cultural diversity and culturally appropriate organising.
· Demonstrated knowledge and experience of working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
· Good knowledge of 3CR.
· Computer literacy.
· Knowledge of a second language other than English
