Application for 2008 Japanese Government (MONBUKAGAKUSHO:MEXT) Scholarship (Embassy Nominated Students)

Thank you for your interest in the MEXT Scholarship and Keio University. Applicants who wish to enroll in Keio University through the Japanese Government Scholarship should read the following information.

    1. To apply for this Scholarship, you must first pass a preliminary screening that is conducted by the Japanese Embassy. For further information about this, see "5.SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION" in the guidelines for Monbukagakusho scholarship applicants. http://www.mext.go.jp/a_menu/koutou/ryugaku/boshu/07030112/002.pdf

2. The candidates who pass the preliminary screening must submit the copy of the same set of documents as those submitted to the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General, and a certificate of the preliminary selection issued by the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General, together with the following Information Form, to the Keio University International Center.

Information Form

Address: Keio University International Center

            2-15-45 Mita, Minato-ku Tokyo 108-8345 JAPAN
*As the application documents will NOT be returned, make sure you retain a copy for your records.

*Those who are interested in Graduate School of Science and Thechnology will send documents to the address below.

Address: Keio University International Center Yagami Office
Faculty of Science and Technology Yagami Campus
            3-14-1 Hiyoshi, Kohoku-ku, Yokohama 223-8522 JAPAN

To complete the Information Form, you can access information about Keio faculty through this website. http://www.ic.keio.ac.jp/en/study/mext/facultyprofile.html

While you are free to contact potential supervisors directly regarding their research fields, it is often better to consult with your university advisor and seek an introduction through her or him to a Keio professor that is best suited to your research interests. Alternatively, you may also find it helpful to review academic journals and other resources open to the public in order to find a potential Keio supervisor. International Center would not introduce any professors to you.

Please note that Keio University only has an English based course at the graduate schools of Science and Technology, Media and Governance, Media Design, and System Design and Management. The applicant who seeks to obtain a degree at the Graduate Schools other than these Graduate Schools is required to have a native level Japanese knowledge, since the entrance examination and all the courses are in Japanese. Although the MEXT provides a 6-month language training period, this will not be enough to prepare for the entrance examination if you are a Japanese beginner.

3. After screening your documents, the International Center contact the faculty based on "Information Form" to issue a letter of acceptance. This acceptance letter will be sent to the address provided in your Information Form. Please note that Keio University does not guarantee that a letter of acceptance will be sent to every applicant. In the event an acceptance letter cannot be issued, the International Center will inform the applicant through the email address provided in the Information Form.

4. Finally, it is the Monbukagakusho, that is, a Japanese government agency, that determines university placement. Neither the applicant nor Keio University has authority to make this decision or influence its outcome. Additionally, a Letter of Acceptance does not, of itself, guarantee an assignment to Keio University.
