Match Report.

Osasuna started brightly going straight at Atlético Madrid, Francisco Juanfran feeding the ball through for Sola, but the offside flag stopped the move with just seconds gone.

But they would get an early lead, Vela raced away and fed Sola who let fly with a left footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner, the perfect start with a goal inside the first minute, and an assist from the young Mexican.

Goal - Kike Sola (1 Minute)

After a niggling few minutes full of fouls, things got even better for Vela, Plasil played Carlos in who from the centre of the box, crashed his left footed shot home doubling the home-side’s lead.

Goal - Carlos Vela (5 Minutes)

Luis Perea then showed his teams frustration, getting a yellow card for a bad foul, after a short delay for treatment to Francisco Puñal, Juanfran was then kicked over by the Spanish international Pernia, with just 10 minutes gone the Mexican could have had another, his right footed shot from the edge of the box was charged down after yet more good work from Plasil.

Perea then put the ball behind for a corner, but with some scrappy defending the ball was cleared, to Vela who raced away but was brought down, the visitors were struggling to deal with his pace and energy, but scrappy moments then followed with free kicks being conceded by both sides, in which Fabiano Eller was booked.

The former Arsenal Winger Jose Reyes was starting to pull the strings, first having a left footed free kick fly over, and then winning another free-kick, but yet more moments of bad play followed, fouls by Vela, Azpilicueta, Lus Garcia, Puña, and then two by Reyes, stopped the flow of the exciting fixture.

Cléber Santana then conceded a corner which Osasuna wasted, looking for the third goal to finish the game off.

But Madrid were coming back into it, Reyes was looking livley and with Perea winning a free kick a goal looked imminent, Jurado fed Diego Forlan who let fly from the edge of the box.

Goal - D. Forlan (Minutes)

2-1, and game on, Eller fouled Sola, as the home side were looking to come straight back into it. these was then a short pause as the two players received treatment.

But yet again more fouls came, the already booked Perea clattered into Jaroslav Plasil for another free kick, which Plasil took it himself and fed Punal, who’s effort was blocked, the rebound was blazed over.

On thirty four minutes on the clock, left back, Antonio López cut inside and fired over, but the end to end affair would continue, Punal played in Plasil who’s effort was very well saved, Vela was starting to become quiet after his bright start, wot the Czech Republic play-maker Plasil creating everything that was good about the game.

And Osasuna had a chance to put themselves 3-1 up, with former Real Madrid player, Javi Garic letting fly on his left foot, but the effort flew just-over, Abbiati was then worked by Sola, who’s effort was put out for a corner.

Then it was Carlos’s turn to work Abbiati, with two left footed drives form the edge of the area, the second one looked goal-bound all the way.

Half Time - Osasuna 2-1 Atlético Madrid

As the second half got underway Madrid made one change, Valera replacing Pernia, but Osasuana started well yet again, Carlos Vela jinked inside and played Plasil in, but he was offside.

Vela was then warned after kicking Luis Garcia, the former Liverpool man wasted the effort, but Osasuna then nearly had their third, more superb work from Vela, played Javi Garcia in who’s effort was well saved.

More chances then came on the hour mark, Javi Garcia headed over, Reyes fed Forlan who fired over, and Jurardo was flagged offside after making a super run.

But with Atlético struggling for goals former Valencia hit-man Mista was introduced for Cléber Santana on 65 minutes. the forward had a instant impact winning a free kick in which Josetxo was booked. the set-piece was wasted.

But the visitors would get another free kick, Azpilicueta fouled former Man United and Villareal striker Diego Forlan, but in exactly the same way as the first, little was created.

Juanfran was then replaced by Hector Font and he was fouled by Madrid’s half time sub Valera, the injection of fresh legs with 20 minutes left helped the home sides cause, Plasil played in Sola who had just gone early, it was offside.

But Osasuna would get the third, Sola played Font in, who fired home from the edge of the area, as the clocked ticket down,

Goal - Hector Font - (75)

Osasuna then made another change, Walter Pandiani replacing the impressive Sola, Jose Reyes then fouled Carlos Vela, yet more fouls continued, Lopez on Font as Atlético became frustrated in the final 5 minutes.

On 89 minutes, after a man of the match performance, Vela was replaced with Ludovic Delporte, as the home side shut up shop, and took the valuable three points.

  1. carlos is doing so well in la liga i cannot wait till he comes back :D

  2. Lets hope he doesn’t get kicked by Martin Taylor if the two meet.

  3. Great work Jamie

  4. Thank you for your comments guys.

yes im sure all Arsenal fans would love to see carlos return, especially now Eduardo is injured.

  5. I was fortunate to see the Vela’s Goal and his assist for the first and I have to admit he is looking a bit tasty. Osasuna still play him on the left in a supporting role to the striker but this proved a good move as he latched on to a flick on and sped away from the defence to do what Adabayor should have done against Birmingham, to Square a pass, putting it on a plate for Sola. His Goal showed why we are waiting for this young Mexican striker to make a name for himself at Arsenal. After a defensive mix up by atletico he was played through in a central striker posistion, possible offside, again using blistering pace to get away from the defence and finished sweetly with his left foot, curling it around the goal keeper into the bottom corner ala (Dare I say it)…Thierry Henry. He will without a doubt need time to adapt to the premiership and ofcorse is not the new Thierry but I for one am getting very excited.

  6. Good one again JS
so do you think Carlos will make it at arsenal? where do you think Arsene will play him? how much do you think he’ll play? and what squad number do you think he will get?
    thanks
    (sorry for all the questions)

  7. IMO i think do believe Arsène Wenger will shift him to the left wing position to use his pace and to whip in some delicious balls. However, when he fully adapts, he should be playing upfront.

  8. so do you think Carlos will make it at arsenal?

He has all the talents needed to make it

where do you think Arsene will play him?

Left wing for a start, then up front.

how much do you think he’ll play?

not much to start off, but if he does well he will play alot

and what squad number do you think he will get?

    he has the number 29

  9. What a player. What do you think the chances are of him getting the legendary Number 8? :)

  10. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4hpei_osasuna-atletico-de-madrid_sport

    the goals.;)

  11. betting he’ll get number 9 and go the route of eithere: reyes, baptista og eduardo… to good to turn out as jeffers.

  12. I watched the game today and this kid is absolute quality!! His pace, vision, passing and trickery are a joy to watch! There was one point in the 2nd half when the Osasuna keeper kicked the ball out into Madrid’s half and Vela controlled the ball with his left foot one time as it was dropping in such a way to let it bounce a few inches of the ground then when the defender rushed him he used his left heel to flick it over him. Pure class! Osasuna also have quite a few quality players as well in the likes of Sola,Juanfran,Plasil and Font. Defense is just lacking a bit though.

  15. he will be the best player that Arsenal has ever possesed

  16. he will make us forget about Henry

  17. who?

  18. I doubt that he will ever be better than Fabregas. I think Fabregas will be the first Arsenal player to be named the World Player of the Year.

Vela will play a lot up front next season. With Dudu out and van Persie always injured (knock on wood). Next summer will be very interesting in the transfer market, mainly up front.

  19. What I was wondering. Have we ever before had a Mexican in our squad? And has anybody from America, except Brazil, played a league game for us? We have had at least 4 Brazilians (Gilberto, Denilson, Baptista, Edu(the midfielder)), and we had Simek (USA), but he never played in the EPL, I think. Can anybody answer this question?

  20. Don’t think a Mexican has played for Arsenal. From the top of my heard other south americans (besides (Gilberto, Denilson, Baptista, Edu(the midfielder)) are :
Nelson Vivas and Fabián Caballero - Argentina
    Silvinho - Brazil

We had two more brazilian youngsters about five years ago, but they didn’t make the grade. One of the was Juan (Juan Maldonado Jaimez Junior), can’t rememeber the others name.

  21. Does Vela already have the physique enough to play for the first team already? He seems a bit small, though we have seen before that short skinny players can be tough…as Clichy who looks very strong now. Is Vela tough enough to straight into the duels? Have only seen him on those short clips. I think Walcott looked fresh against Milan did not see Birmingham match. Bendtner looks lacklustre, hope I am mistaken

  22. Do Arsenal have an option to get him back and possibility to do so outside the transfer window?

  23. he won’t get no.9.. that’s eduardo’s no.
