Anti-Semitic cricketer banned for eight years

From the AJN:

Facebook sledger out until 2015
Naomi Levin

THE cricketer who set up a page on a social networking site that sledged the Maccabi Ajax Cricket Club has been suspended from the sport for eight years.

Ash Peake, from McKinnon Cricket Club, authored the page “FU Ajax Cricket Club” on Facebook and invited other cricketers from his club and the Beaumaris Cricket Club to to comment on the Jewish team.

A tribunal hearing at the Victorian Turf Cricket Association (VTCA) found Peake guilty of racial vilification and suspended him until the start of the 2015-16 season.

Foxtel airs doco by Holocaust denier

From the Oz:

Foxtel pulls plug on Hitler doco
Imre Salusinszky
August 29, 2007

FOXTEL chief Kim Williams is “acutely embarrassed” his network put to air a documentary about Adolf Hitler written by Holocaust denier David Irving.

The Australian has learnt that an episode of The War Files, broadcast on the History Channel on Saturday, was a condensed version of Irving’s book, Hitler’s War.

Irving, who is banned from entering Australia, scripted and produced the documentary, which he sells to supporters on DVD for about $50. Mr Williams has pulled the series and ordered an investigation. “My reaction is one of dismay,” he said yesterday. “It has been stopped and will not be transmitted again. I can only express regret on the part of Foxtel that it slipped through our normal editorial processes.”

Sydney Forum 2007

Ripped off of Slackbastard:

Another year, another Sydney Forum. And like the Mighty Magpies proved on Saturday night — by way of a final score of 15.11 (101) to 11.10 (76) — Sydney’s full of fucking losers. Well, when it’s not full of war criminals, dictators, and other members of the transnational ruling class — as it will be in a few short weeks. (In addition to Australia, APEC’s membership is composed of delegates from the governments of Brunei, Canada, Chile, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), “Hong Kong, China”, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, People’s Republic of China, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Republic of Korea (South Korea), Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.)

Foreign troublemakers at the Sydney Forum, on the other hand, appear to be largely of Croatian, Iraqi, Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian origin: Dr. Tomislav Sunic; a member of the Arab Ba’ath Socialist Party in Iraq; Dr. James Saleam; Rihab Charida; and a member of the Syrian National Socialist Party (which Charida supports), respectively.

Well, that was the plan.

Australia still racist: South Australian youth

From the Adelaide Addy:

We’re still racist country
August 26, 2007

YOUNG South Australians fear racism still mars Australian society, despite the nation’s reputation for multiculturalism.

Although they say most schoolyards are relatively free of racial conflict, teenagers see examples of racist behaviour regularly in everyday life, from slurs to discrimination.

Anti-Semitism in Australia

Ripped off of Slackbastard:

The recent assault on a Jewish teenager in Melbourne — by a pair of racist bogans armed with baseball bats and blonde mullets — has prompted a more extensive AAP article on anti-Semitism in Australia, Anti-Semitism ‘reaching scary levels’ (The Age, August 23, 2007). The impetus for the article is presumably provided by the fact that the bashing follows on from the widely-publicised assault on Jewish businessman Menachem Vorchheimer last October (by a number of incredibly brave Ocean Grove footballers), and racist Internet postings made earlier this month by some other terrifically sporting cricketers from McKinnon. Note that, to its credit, McKinnon Cricket Club appears to have responded much more positively to the racist commentary (allegedly) made by some of its senior members than Ocean Grove Football Club did in relation to the racist abuse and assault of Vorchheimer: in the immediate aftermath, club coach Matthew Sproule denied any wrongdoing on the part of his boys. (The situation was further complicated by the involvement of an off-duty policeman in the incident.)

And the winner is… Sydney!

Ripped off Slackbastard:

Welf: [threateningly] We Germans aren’t all smiles und sunshine.
Jones: [recoils in mock horror] Oooh, the Germans are mad at me. I’m
    so scared! Oooh, the Germans!
[hiding behind Gerbil] Uh oh, the Germans are going to get me!
    Welf: Stop it!
    Claus: Stop, sir.
Jones: Don’t let the Germans come after me. Oh no, the Germans are
    coming after me.
Claus: Please stop the ‘pretending you are scared’ game, please.
    Welf: Stop it! Stop it!
Jones: [brief pause, then resumes] No! They’re so big and strong!
    Claus: Stop it.
    Welf: Stop it, Mr. Jones.
Claus: Please stop pretending you are scared of us, please, now.
Jones: Oh, protect me from the Germans! The Germans…
    Welf: Jones, STOP IT!

This weekend, August 25–26, Sydney will be playing host to the Sydney Forum 2007, Australia’s premiere gathering of white racists, fascists and neo-Nazis. As noted previously — 2007 Sydney
Forum
(May 23); 2007 Sydney Forum : Phantasy vs. Reality (June 15) — this year’s Forum has had its share of ups und downs, and the main organiser, Dr James Saleam of the Australia First Party (the Forum functions as a de facto annual conference for AF) has had to purge at least one speaker from the list following his successful campaign to have Baron Von Hund / David Innes expelled from first Stormfront and now, it seems, the weird and wacky world of (Australian) “White Nationalism” as a whole.

The crafty old bugger.

Anti-Semitic attacks on the rise in Melbourne

From The Age:

Anti-Semitism ‘reaching scary levels’
August 23, 2007

A recent baseball bat attack on a young Jewish man in Melbourne has shaken his tight community and prompted fears that anti-Semitism has reached frightening new levels in Australia.

The trendy suburb of Balaclava, just a few kilometres from the CBD, is the epicentre of Melbourne Jewry with its synagogues, Jewish schools, kosher butchers and wineshops and cafes staffed by Israeli backpackers.

The sort of place where Jews should feel safe.

But as Victoria University anti-Semitism expert Professor Danny Ben-Moshe pointed out, if someone wants to bash a Jew in Melbourne they know where they can find one - in Carlisle Street, Balaclava.

Racist cricket club smacked down

From The Age:

Cricket club under fire for anti-Semitism
Miki Perkins
August 19, 2007

GLEN Eira City Council has imposed sanctions on the McKinnon Cricket Club and threatened to end its tenancy after club players posted racist messages about Jewish cricket team Maccabi AJAX online.

The F.U. AJAX Cricket Club website, created through the social networking site Facebook, showed images of players from McKinnon and Beaumaris cricket clubs alongside anti-Semitic comments.

One man wrote: “Being of German heritage, I think I need to apologise for ACC to still be in existence (sic). My grandparents tried to get them all …”

Another said he was the “Deputy Vice-President in charge of Holocaust References” and called on the group to “Install A F—ing RHEEM”. The comments have since been removed.

On Tuesday, Glen Eira councillor and B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission chairman Michael Lipshutz tabled a motion which withdrew all grants and suspended any benefits to the McKinnon club until it expelled members involved in the incident.
