CONVINCING GROUND: LEARNING TO LOVE YOUR COUNTRY, Bruce Pascoe,
Aboriginal Studies Press, $39.95
This book will be available at a future forum in Trades Hall on 20
June (see below), but it should be on sale by next week. Last time the
author spoke, he received a standing ovation. Pascoe writes about
identity, dispossession, memory and community, proposing a way forward
for Australians beyond shady intellectual argument and inmmature
nationalism.

KEYWORDS TO WAR: REVIVING LANGUAGE IN AN AGE OF TERROR, Mary Zournazi,
Scribe, $27.95
The author shows how the meaning of words that are necessary to
understanding the current political world have been abused and
misused. She strives to restore the link between language and moral
conscience and evoke a compassionate and more hopeful alternative.
Zournazi is a freelance radio producer with ABC Radio National. We
have invited her to speak at Trades Hall next month.

KEVIN RUDD: AN UNAUTHORISED POLITICAL BIOGRAPHY, Nicholas Stuart,
Scribe, $32.95
Described as a spin-free examination of the making of a potential
alternative Prime Minister, this book goes behind the scenes to find
the influences that have shaped Kevin Rudd’s vision for Australia’s
future. (Available in July)

THE STUPID COUNTRY: HOW AUSTRALIA IS DISMANTLING ITS PUBLIC EDUCATION,
Chris Bonnor and Jane Caro, New South Books, $29.95
The book challenges us to consider whether we really want to continue
stumbling blindly down our current path, or look to more equitable
ways to fund education at both private and public schools. The authors
are experienced commentators who promote public education. (Available
in July)
