NEW Unreported World Somalia Al-Qaedas New Haven (Documentary) Unreported World Somalia Al-Qaedas New Haven
DOCUMENTARY: Unreported World
Channel: Channel 4 104
Date: Saturday 26th November 2005
Time: 18:15 to 18:45
Duration: 30 minutes.

Somalia: Al-Qaeda's New Haven.

Unreported World visits one of the most dangerous places on earth to investigate
the growth of a militant Islamic network and asks whether Somalia's fertile
training ground for Islamic terrorists could provoke a regional civil war.
Reporter Aidan Hartley and Producer James Brabazon are the first western
journalists to set foot in Somalia since BBC producer Kate Peyton was killed
nine months ago while crossing a Mogadishu street. A decade has passed since
the UN military mission in Somalia ended following the deaths of 18 US special
forces and 1,000 Somalis in the so-called "Blackhawk Down" battle. The state
has collapsed completely, with warlords controlling the country and more than
half a million people killed over the last ten years by war and famine.
But the warlords' hold on the country is now being superseded by a new,
well-funded Islamic network. America alleges the militants' leader Shayk Hasan
Dahir Aweys is linked to al-Qaeda, and other contacts tell Hartley that rich
Saudi businessmen are backing the jihadi network, which is training 3,000 men to
spread Islamic revolution all over the African continent.

Reporter: Aidan Hartley

NEW The God Who Wasn't There ('05 Hi-Qual. AVI/DVD rip) (Documentary) The God Who Wasn't There ('05 Hi-Qual. AVI/DVD rip)
Holding modern Christianity up to a merciless spotlight, this bold and hilarious new film asks the questions few dare to ask. And when it finds out how crazy the answers are, it dares to call them crazy. Your guide through the bizarre world of Christendom is former fundamentalist Brian Flemming, who unflinchingly explores the absurdity of belief and believers. Along the way, you will discover:

* Jesus Christ is likely a fictional character, a legend never based on a real human.

* Christian doctrine contradicts itself at every turn, and encourages immorality when it serves the religion.

* The beliefs of moderate Christians make even less sense than those of extremists.

The God Who Wasn't There may delight you or anger you. Perhaps it will do both. But you'll never look at Christianity the same again. Hold on to your faith - it's in for a bumpy ride.

NEW Peter Singer: Marx - A Very Short Introduction (Miscellaneous) Peter Singer: Marx - A Very Short Introduction
Books : Misc. Educational : English

Book Description:
Peter Singer identifies the central vision that unifies Marx's thought, enabling us to grasp Marx's views as a whole. He sees him as a philosopher primarily concerned with human freedom, rather than as an economist or a social scientist. In plain English, he explains alienation, historical materialism, the economic theory of Capital, and Marx's ideas of communism, and concludes with an assessment of Marx's legacy.

Manifestoon - The Communist Manifesto illustrated by Disney (this one working - please delete other one) (Miscellaneous) Manifestoon - The Communist Manifesto illustrated by Disney (this one working - please delete other one)
Sorry about the previous upload of this. I think the torrent filename was too long. This should work fine.

------
Displaying a broad range of Golden Age Hollywood animation, Manifestoon is an homage to the latent subversiveness of cartoons. Though U.S. cartoons are usually thought of as conveyors of capitalist ideologies of consumerism and individualism, Drew observes: "Somehow as an avid childhood fan of cartoons, these ideas were secondary to a more important lesson—that of the 'trickster' nature of many characters as they mocked, outwitted and defeated their more powerful adversaries. In the classic cartoon, brute strength and heavy artillery are no match for wit and humor, and justice always prevails. For me, it was natural to link my own childhood concept of subversion with an established, more articulate version [Marx and Engels' Communist Manifesto]. Mickey running over the globe has new meaning in today's mediascape, in which Disney controls one of the largest concentrations of media ownership in the world."

PBS Frontline - The Dark Side (Documentary) PBS Frontline - The Dark Side
On September 11, 2001, deep inside a White House bunker, Vice President Dick Cheney was ordering U.S. fighter planes to shoot down any commercial airliner still in the air above America. At that moment, CIA Director George Tenet was meeting with his counter-terrorism team in Langley, Virginia. Both leaders acted fast, to prepare their country for a new kind of war. But soon a debate would grow over the goals of the war on terror and the decision to go to war in Iraq. Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and others saw Iraq as an important part of a broader plan to remake the Middle East and project American power worldwide. Meanwhile Tenet, facing division in his own organization, saw non-state actors such as Al Qaeda as the highest priority. . It is the third documentary about the war on terror from the team that produced "Rumsfeld’s War" and "The Torture Question."

Amid revelations about faulty prewar intelligence and a scandal surrounding the indictment of the vice president's chief of staff and presidential adviser, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, FRONTLINE goes behind the headlines to investigate the internal war that was waged between the intelligence community and Richard Bruce Cheney, the most powerful vice president in the nation's history. In "The Dark Side," FRONTLINE tells the story of the vice president's role as the chief architect of the war on terror, and his battle with Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet for control of the "dark side." FRONTLINE’s investigation of the ensuing conflict includes more than 40 interviews, thousands of pages of documentary evidence and a substantial photographic archive and provides a step-by-step examination of what happened inside the councils of war.

Why We Fight - A Film By Eugene Jarecki (Documentary) Why We Fight - A Film By Eugene Jarecki
WHY WE FIGHT, won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, it is an unflinching look at the anatomy of the American war machine, weaving unforgettable personal stories with commentary by a “who’s who” of military and beltway insiders. Featuring John McCain, William Kristol, Chalmers Johnson, Gore Vidal, Richard Perle and others, WHY WE FIGHT launches a bipartisan inquiry into the workings of the military industrial complex and the rise of the American Empire.

Inspired by Dwight Eisenhower’s legendary farewell speech (in which he coined the phrase “military industrial complex”), filmmaker Jarecki (THE TRIALS OF HENRY KISSINGER) surveys the scorched landscape of a half-century’s military adventures, asking how – and telling why – a nation of, by, and for the people has become the savings-and-loan of a system whose survival depends on a state of constant war.

The film moves beyond the headlines of various American military operations to the deeper questions of why – why does America fight? What are the forces – political, economic, ideological – that drive us to fight against an ever-changing enemy?

“Frank Capra made a series of films during World War II called WHY WE FIGHT that explored America’s reasons for entering the war,” Jarecki notes. “Today, with our troops engaged in Iraq and elsewhere for reasons far less clear, I think it’s crucial to ask the questions: ‘Why are we doing what we are doing? What is it doing to others? And what is it doing to us?’”

Frankfurt, Harry - On Bullshit [eBook PDF]
20 pages

As the audiobook been posted, here's the "book".

One of the most salient features of our culture is that there is so much bullshit. Everyone knows this. Each of us contributes his share. But we tend to take the situation for granted. Most people are rather confident of their ability to recognize bullshit and to avoid being taken in by it. So the phenomenon has not aroused much deliberate concern. We have no clear understanding of what bullshit is, why there is so much of it, or what functions it serves. And we lack a conscientiously developed appreciation of what it means to us. In other words, as Harry Frankfurt writes, "we have no theory."

Frankfurt, one of the world's most influential moral philosophers, attempts to build such a theory here. With his characteristic combination of philosophical acuity, psychological insight, and wry humor, Frankfurt proceeds by exploring how bullshit and the related concept of humbug are distinct from lying. He argues that bullshitters misrepresent themselves to their audience not as liars do, that is, by deliberately making false claims about what is true. In fact, bullshit need not be untrue at all.
