After relentless pressure from the public, the Conservatives have agreed to a debate on Canada’s role in Afghanistan on Mon., Apr. 10. But a debate is not enough. We also need public involvement and ultimately a vote. At 6 p.m. join peace activists from Ottawa & Gatineau on Parliament Hill to shout: “Tonight the debate, tomorrow the vote.” Confirmed speakers include Steven Staples, Polaris Institute; Francine Dumas of ROCG; Jade Pichette of SCAW.

On Saturday February Fourth members of Solidarity Across Borders and No One Is Illegal will be in Ottawa to give two workshops. The purpose of the event is twofold. One, to increase knowledge and understanding about how the Canadian Immigration system works (or doesn’t work). And two, to form a grass roots organization in Ottawa devoted to doing refugee/migrant/immigrant casework and campaign work.

Peace activists are responding with a call to action to confront her visit on Mon. Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at 24 Sussex Dr. (the prime minister's residence) because Paul Martin and Condi are scheduled to have dinner there. It is time once again that Canadians stand up and reject the racist “war on terror” and demand that social services such as education and medicare be given priority over military spending.
