After Representative Lon Burnam of Fort Worth demanded that George W. "Bill" Ceverha resign from the board of the Employee Retirement System (ERS), North Texas Jobs with Justice found a way to join in defense of state workers. The ERS Board guards almost $20 million in taxpayer dollars that is supposed to be there when state employees retire.

Ceverha agreed to be investigated on Burnam's conflict of interest charges, then went home to Dallas. On his first day at his office on Cedar Springs in Dallas, a group of us stood outside to demand his resignation!

Radioactive Materials Still Missing in North Texas
Nuclear Vials Presumed Stolen, Questions Remain About Safety and Procedures

NOTE: Special thanks to Randy Lee Loftis, environment reporter for The Dallas Morning News, for making the first investigative report on this incident, and for providing much of the information used in this IMC report.

Federal and state officials report they still have not located two vials of radioactive material that went missing November 3 as they were being shipped by truck from Albuquerque to Kilgore, Texas.

Two plastic tubes of antimony-124, a highly toxic and radioactive liquid primarily used by the oil and gas industry, are looking increasingly like they have been stolen somewhere en route from Albuquerque to Kilgore, Texas, according to New Mexico and federal officials.

Texans Fight for Human Rights
Local Activists Take on Wal-Mart

On December 10, International Human Rights Day, North Texans assembled Wal-Mart on I-30 at the St Francis exit in East Dallas. Teamsters from mighty Local 745 constituted about half of the crowd of 150, which strung out along the freeway access road for in a line more than 3 city blocks.

The United Food and Commercial Workers, also part of the new "Coalition for Change" joined in. The other half of the group consisted of AFL-CIO affiliated unionists and a handful of supporters from the peace and immigrants' rights movements. Rudy Anderson of Jobs with Justice brought signs and shrill whistles for everyone.

Criminal Trespass
Arrested at Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison's Dallas Office

I am an animal rights activist. Although I marched against the Iraq war 2 years ago, I didn't become an anti-war protester until October 25, 2005 when I was arrested for trying to visit my Senator's Dallas office.

The experience of being arrested was surreal. I couldn't believe an everyday VOTER was not only being questioned outside the building with a heavy police presence, but not being allowed entry at all.

I would love to say my reason for visiting the senator's office was as admirable as voicing my objection to the 2000th soldier killed in Iraq. Alas, my reason was less honorable. I was perplexed when Mrs. Hutchison stated on Meet the Press that Rove's perjury was a "technicality" while Clinton's was worthy of impeachment. I wanted to voice my dismay in person.

Sheehan to support the call for a town hall meeting.

The Camp Casey Dallas Coalition met , and decided that CCD will pitch its tents outside Kay Bailey Hutchison's office through December. We will be there on December 2, December 9, December 16, (not December 23) and December 30. At that time, we will meet and decide where to go from there.

This Friday, we have a special guest coming. Cindy Sheehan is going to join us! When Hadi told her what we were outside of KBH's office every Friday and that people had been arrested trying to go see her, she clapped and cheered. Hadi asked her to join us this Friday, and she agreeed! She has to catch a 2:45 flight, so CCD will begin at 11:00 instead of noon.

kid-jailMeet Jason. He’s your typical, average, run-of-the-mill 13-year-old boy. He’s handsome but shy, with a warm, slightly mischievous smile, curly black hair and deep brown eyes.

He likes football, skateboarding, go-carts, video games, and sports cars. He could be the boy next door. He could be the boy down the block, or across the street. He could even be your own kid.

So why is the State calling him a rapist?

Dallas anti-war sit-in, two arrested at Senator's office
Protest to mark the 2000th soldier killed in Iraq
UPDATE: Friday (10/28) -- Three more people arrested. Arrestees included Nel Labar, Rev. Peter Johnson, and Iman Zacatee Ilddeen. All have been released. Source: correspondent from Code Pink Fort Worth.

“The plan was to speak to the senator, our elected official, the woman that represents us. They ought to give us an opportunity to make our case.” said Reverend Peter Johnson after being turned away from Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison's office by a cadre of police Tuesday afternoon in Dallas.

The group, led by Civil Rights leaders Reverend L. Charles Stovall and Reverend Peter Johnson, wanted to discuss with Senator Hutchison her opinion on the two-thousandth dead U.S soldier since the war in Iraq began. They were denied access on the grounds that the building in which the senators office is located is private property closed to the public.".
