A collective of UCSB students organized a walkout and demonstration to protest the inauguration of George W. Bush as President of the United States. Four more years of Bush draws concern on both domestic and foreign policy and issues. The crowd met at the Arbor breezeway and marched to Storke Plaza where skits were performed and speakers presented. |
Students stood in solidarity with UCSB representatives who traveled to Washington D.C. to protest. They called attention to the probable fraudulent election and calculated efforts to disenfranchise people of color, particularly Black voters. Reproductive rights, the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the plot to kill social security, and many more concerns were addressed.
During the rally, Elizabeth Robinson from KCSB reminded students that the Democratic party does not fair all that well either when it comes to U.S foreign policy and the economy. She challenged students develop a consciousness that goes beyond a two party system. Ralph Armbruster, professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies, spoke on labor, a student addressed the neoconservative push to further disenfranchise gays, lesbians, and bisexuals, and students also spoke on education and the environment.
Although disrupted by College Republicans at times, student organizers controlled the situation. Workshops facilitated by faculty, students, and community were held after the march and rally.

Thanks for reporting. I didn't get a chance to go to the protest and am glad to see what went down. Great job on the visuals. |
