AFTA, Femicide and Ruta Pacifica

The impact of free trade on women and children is often overlooked by activists.

The systemic abduction, rape, torture, sexual mutilation and murder of girls and women grows globally. It is directly tied to corporate "FREE TRADE" resource extraction. The genocides in Sierra Leone, The Congo, Rwanda and Dafur have left millions dead. Millions more are mutilated and thousands of women and girls birthing babies of rapists. While these killings occur, corporations plunder diamonds, trees, chocolate, oil and labor.

Five Years After the WTO: The Seattle Weekly Trashes the Anti-Globalization Movement

The media spin cycle leading up to major anti-globalization protests has become so predictable that activists have been forced to come up with better media strategies to keep up with the lies and disinformation.

The mainstream media starts the cycle several months in advance with articles and coverage about the upcoming summit and accompanying protests. This coverage always includes an obligatory interview with the local authorities who claim that they will be "ready" for the protests. These early articles will include space devoted to the issues on the table, but as the event nears, the coverage focuses more and more on the expected clash between protesters and police. Activists have tried many different ways to change this narrative, to force the media coverage back to the issues and reasons for protest, without much success.

Seattle Weekly WTO Coverage: Lies & Omissions

The Seattle Weekly's Anniversary Coverage of the WTO Ministerial is filled with omissions of key facts and relies on one of the police commanders for it's view description of what took place on the streets. Reading the Weekly you wouldn't know that the police had used their "less lethal" munitions on thousands hours before any property was broken, and you'd think the police haven't used these weapons against demonstrators since. The truth is quite different...

Eminem releases Mosh2 with new ending

There are more of us then there are of them "It is time for all people of conscience to call upon America, come back home, come home America. I call on Washington today, I call on every man and woman of good will all over America today, I call on the young men of America who must make a choice today. Take a stand on this issue, tomorrow may be too late. Come home America." -MLK (1)
