 The last part of the Anti-War and Resistance Festa three part series, ended yesterday with great music and creative agitations. Following after the successful symposium and mobilization the other day, anti-war activists and autonomous groups converged altogether to hear the music of resistance at Umejima, eastern part of Tokyo.
Watanabe was also there to participate the event, expressing his solidarity against the war. Watanabe is a journalist in Iraq who was reported as taken hostage by the Iraqi resistance but later released by his captors.
The Anti-War and Resistance Festa was organized by various radical autonomous groups in Tokyo who united together for actively opposing the war and social inequalities in Japan.

Repression at APEC: Chile says No to APEC |

 Over the past week heads of state from 21 countries, including Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, have met in Santiago, Chile to hammer out the latest details of APEC, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. APEC is currently the largest international trading bloc in world history, whose member states comprise over one-third of the world’s population. Unknown even to many veteran globalization activists, APEC transforms the Pacific region into the largest free trade bloc in world history, incorporating far-flung nations of Asia, North America and South America into a single, common market. Based on much the same principles of more notorious free trade agreements - NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement) and the FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) - APEC seeks to remove protective tariffs and dismantle trade regulations, encouraging economic development, privatization and the free flow of capital across international borders. There have been massive protests against the APEC on the first day, 19 November, and confrontations with the police. A number of 'unauthorised' marches and protests have taken place which were met with police violence and brutality, included armoured vehicles and water cannon. At least 2 journalists were arrested. There was a peaceful mobilization of about 25,000 people from the Chilean Social Forum, which had official sanction.

イラク戦争は激化の一途をたどる一方です。今月、米軍の空爆で封を切ったファルージャ一斉攻撃で、状況はいっそう深刻となっています。この掃海作戦では、約1年半前のバグダッドへの開戦爆撃よりもさらに多くの一般市民が、犠牲者として殺されていくことでしょう。アメリカはだいぶ前に、イラク戦争について戦闘終結を宣言しました。しかし、実際にはイラク全土が絶望と悲嘆に暮れるまで、この虐殺は続けられようとしています。
The war in Iraq is getting worse; following the bombing of Fallujah by US bombers a while ago, the number of dead civilians is expected to rise to more than the number of dead people in Baghdad during the first US air raids, a couple of years ago.
Previously, the US declared it was ‘Mission Accomplished’ but it seems more likely that the carnage will continue until the whole of Iraq is filled with despair and grief.
