Friends,
Y'all might remember the little Hell Month project we have going against National Coal Co. - the new firm that is buying and continuing the Zeb Mountain mountain top removal project.
Well, this morning (friday, oct 8th), a bunch of us got served with a temporary restraining order from the Chancery Court of Knox County.
It seems that National Coal has been getting quite a few emails, faxes and phone calls and they claim it is disrupting their business. In their affidavit, they lie about our one little protest, claiming we blocked traffic and threatened people with "bludgeons". |

27 Sep 2004
|
At 12:15 AM on Monday, September 27th, a handful of men and women from Earth First! shut down an A & G Coal Mining Company office in Wise County, Virginia. Locks were placed on all gates to the premises and front doors were chained and glued shut, with a sign reading, “We won’t stop until you do. See you in the mountains… Earth First!” This was done in order to prevent all trucks and operators from departing for a nearby mining site. |

Our family had just finished a group medical examination. The doctor paused before leaving and asked, “Does the child need an excused absence for school?” My first thought was, why does everyone automatically assume that a three-year-old “goes to school”? And my second thought was, since when does a parent have to justify himself to the school authorities, anyway?... |

Google News Stonewalling Independent Media |

In the world of online news publishing, syndication is one of the most important ways of reaching a large audience, and of all the news syndication services on the internet, perhaps none are more prominent than Google News. Launched in September of 2002, Google News promised to be an impartial provider of diverse news stories from across the globe. By compiling news stories "solely by computer algorithms" and "without human intervention", Google News was touted as an inclusive and unbiased source of news. The only catch is that Google News only syndicates news stories from certain websites and which websites make the cut are determined by human choice. Over the years it has become evident that this choice is not impartial, but rather subject to politics and the whims of public opinion. By offering a revolving door of tenuous and inconsistent excuses, Google News has effectively worked to stonewall left-leaning independent media sources from syndication. |
