On the morn of the Vigil for the 1000 dead US troops, parents and family of soldiers killed in Iraq have demanded to see an exit plan for the return of US troops from Iraq. At a press conference in Washington DC the veterans and family members united under the banner of the Win Without War coalition, to call Americans to unite to shed light on the Iraq War policy, and to call on the Bush Administration to reveal its plans for the winding down of the Iraqi occupation.

Photo from inside the detention center, Pier 57, where most of the 1800 people were "detained", from 24 hours to almost 3 days, for protesting, or preemptively rounded up for standing near protests, occurring in NYC against the Republican National Convention. Currently 55 people are on hunger strike. There are couple hundred jail solidarity outside the detention, and the cops are surrounding the scene.
Currently @700 people are being held, in spite of 3 judge's orders to release people. The latest court order was to release 470 people immediately. It is commonly understood that the police are stalling to keep people off the street until after George Bush gives his acceptance speech tonite, at 8pm.

RNC - Bush Speech Disruptions at Madison Square Garden
10:45pm -- 10:50pm: According to NPR, two people have been dragged off of the convention floor. The first was a woman in a "blue pant suit" and the second person also described as a woman. Indymedia IRC reports a call from a male, earlier, alleging to be from inside Madision Square Garden. The incidents involving security removing the women from the floor happened about 5 minutes apart. Video (Cspan)
NPR says the protesters' infiltration caused some in the crowd to be unnerved and distracted that the "security" was "broken." CSPAN, ABC and other video outlets did not move their camera's focus away from tight crops of the president during the disruptions, nor did they acknowledge what was going on as it happened. PBS deferred and shared video of the protesters in their recap after the close of the speech. [Off-site: Reuters Photo]
